Anton de Kom (1898–1945) was a Surinamese writer, resistance fighter, and anti-colonial activist. His work and ideas remain as urgent today as ever, yet they are still unfamiliar to many in the Netherlands. With CHARACTERS: Voices in Type, we bring his story back into public space.
Together with design studio Built by Civilization and American type designer Tré Seals (Vocal Type), we are developing a brand-new typeface inspired by the life and values of De Kom. This typeface will form the basis of a 100-meter-long mural in Breda.
