Summer School 2025

This year we welcome designers and typography heroes Gemma O’Brien (AUS), Schultzschultz (DE) and Britt Möricke & Studio Saber. Each will give a three-day masterclass.

Letters are in motion. Sometimes they scream from the walls, other times they whisper between the lines. Explore with top designers Gemma O’Brien, Schultzschultz and the duo Britt Möricke & Studio Saber how typography is constantly shifting — from strict system to wild brushstroke, from digital precision to physical performance.

Dive into craft and experiment, play with rhythm, structure and chance. Because every stroke – every line, every letter – has the potential to change, to surprise, to speak. This Summer School is a hands-on trip along the boundaries of typography. Whether you work by hand or behind a screen: learn how to bend, break and reshape letters.

Since 2021 Graphic Matters organizes an annual Summer School. Each masterclass has room for a maximum of 15 participants. You will learn new skills, expand your network and meet like-minded people. In three days, a special group dynamic is created in which you not only learn from the masters, but also from each other.

Both students and professionals can participate. The participants come from all over the world – from Breda to Korea, from Bulgaria to Iceland. These different backgrounds ensure a very varied and inspiring group.

A ticket gives access to the chosen masterclass. This includes lunch/coffee/tea/water. You also get free access to the Morning Talks on August 19.

On Tuesday morning August 19, we will kick off the Summer School with the Current Characters VI. The three masters will each give a presentation about their working methods, inspiration and ambition. This is free for Summer School participants, for other interested parties a ticket is €10,- including coffee, tea and a croissant to start your day well.

Summer School takes place in De Uitvindfabriek. This former candy factory now serves as an inspiring workshop for young and old where technology, innovation and sustainability come together. The location is 300m from Breda train station.
