Most of you reading this will know that we organise several projects based on visual culture, one of which being the Graphic Matters festival that shows the impact of graphic design on our daily lives. The programme focuses on self-initiated projects by young designers. By means of co-production and presentation, we offer them a chance to develop their own artistic practice. The festival takes place every other year, but we also organise lectures, exhibitions and workshops during the years in between.
A special collaboration
The Keep an Eye Foundation are also dedicated to talent development and they support several organisations nationwide. This shared ambition has lead to a three-year collaboration consisting of a yearly programme of 4 masterclasses. The masterclasses are hosted by international experts and are open to young designers, with an age limit of 35 years. Spread over several days, they will work on challenges together, focusing on a certain attitude, technique or theme.
It’s an important development for us!
“For the first time we enter into a collaboration with a private foundation. Which means we can now let young talents and experienced professionals learn from each other, not just during the festival, but also in the years between. We frequently organise educational workshops, but masterclasses are a great new addition for us”, says Dennis Elbers, creative director of Graphic Matters.
First masterclasses during Graphic Matters 2019
The first Keep and Eye Masterclasses will take place during the seventh edition of Graphic Matters, from the 20th of September through the 27th of October. The masterclasses are in line with the theme INFORMATION SUPERPOWER, which showcases information design like data-visualisation, infographics, manuals and cartography. In a day and age of ever-increasing data, we need designers to create order, provide clarity and show connections. Without visualisation, data isn’t valuable information.
The first two international experts that will host a Masterclass are American designer Stefanie Posavec, who’s project DEAR DATA will be on display during Graphic Matters 2019, and design agency CLEVER°FRANKE, world-leading in visualising complex data. In 2 weeks the additional 2 experts will be announced and registration will open.
Practical
Thanks to the support of Keep an Eye, designers can (almost) participate for free. Instead of the general cost of about €500,-, they only pay the registration fee of €30,-. The maximum number of participants per Masterclass is 15, open to both national and international designers. Participants will be selected based on their motivation and can register online, beginning mid-June via this website!
